Hump Day for Southbay Girl

I finally got up and ran this morning-and boy did it make me feel better! I know the past two days I needed sleep-and I need it again tonight so this will be a short post! I woke up at 5am and went for a short, wake the body and system and get the legs moving run! And then went to work and had another long ass day! Left the house at 6:15-didn't get home until 9:45pm! Worked from 7:42am until 9pm! But I did take Velcro to the park again tonight to play with her Jolly Ball and I'm setting my alarm to get up tomorrow at 4:45 or 5am to run! So night night!

RUN: 2.7 miles with Velcro in the dark!

I think Everything caught up to me today!

I think the long month and a half of work, the training, the half on saturday, the cross country trips in a span of 3 days and getting beat-up working all day in record heat at a horse stable caught up with me today-for I was EXHAUSTED! I had wanted to get up and run, but the alarm went off and all I could think about was sleeping. I got an extra 30 minutes of sleep-but it sure didn't feel like it. I was dragging all day long! Luckily we had an hour lunch today, because the cast was reading thru the next script-so sleepy me took a power nap of 45 minutes! Think it saved me for the remainder of our 14 hour day!!! I felt rejuvenated and refreshed and I was ready to tackle another crappy long day at work! I'm planning on running tomorrow morning....I did get some exercise in today!

A Working Monday for Southbay Girl

Yes I was right back at it today! I got back to the house from my flight at 9pm and had just a bit of cleaning to do before heading off to bed at 10:30-and I was up bright and early at 4:30 to give the cats and Velcro some mom time before heading off to work. I left the house at 5:30 am, to be at work by 6am-and it was non-stop from that point on. We were working at a stables in South Pasadena-out in the sun and heat almost all of the day! Gatorades were scarce and the smoke was in the air from the Sierra Madre fire. We were supposed to move back to the stage at lunch,12:30, HA! That's funny! We didn't leave the stables until around 3:15pm-a tad later than they had planned, which of course meant a long day-AGAIN! This show is incapable of shooting less than 14 hour days!!! We dropped 2 scenes and finished in 14 hours-I left work around 8pm and got home to a very happy dog around 8:30. So I decided she needed a short Jolly Ball excursion to the park. And Jolly Ball she did play! After 15 hardcore minutes of chasing the hard plastic ball around the park I decided the panting exhausted dog was a happy one-and I took her home! Velcro is HAPPY! And will probably sleep great tonight!!! As will I! I'm having a glass of wine and will soon be going to bed-I really want to run in the morning, but I must get some sleep since I feel this is going to be a long week work wise!

I have the possiblity of running in 2 races this weekend. Saturday is the Temecula Run thru the Vineyards 5K and 10K at 8am-that will depend on how late our friday goes. And then on sunday is the Santa Monica Classic 5K/10K, at 8am. I'm supposed to be going for a "ladies brunch" on sunday the 4th as well as herding-YIKES! That might be a busy sunday-running thru the vineyards sounds fun but I'd be up SUPER early on saturday!! I'll have to see. The following weekend is the Santa Barbara Half Marathon-hmmm....wine tasting afterwards.....hmmmm awfully appealing! But once again depends on WORK! Work is turning into one of the four letter words! No matter what, Sunday the 11th, Mother's Day, I'll be spending it running my first Trail race-a 6K race in Malibu-I decided to start small and work up to the longer distances!!

PLANK: 1 Minute-felt like an eternity!

I crossed the finish line...actually running!

I had a great time, considering my "training" consisted of two or three 3-mile runs a week...I actually ran the first 8 miles before I had to slow down and walk a bit. No bathroom breaks, either. I was afraid to stop!! After missing all the shuttles, we parked our car downtown at 6 am (at the Documentary Channel, where Helen works), and we walked to Centennial Park. (Can you believe that??) We figured it would be a good warm-up...I have no idea how long that walk was. We got to the start, called Southbay girl on her cellphone, and we all started off together (Bill had originally signed us up for Corral #13, which was pretty delusional...so we stayed behind and found our friends in Corral #24) We waited around a long while before we started the run, and it was actually getting cold. We were really glad to get started, if for no other reason than to be able to warm up!! I ran with my brother, and we had a great pace going for quite some time. Right around mile 9, Bill sprained his foot. I thought I hurt mine, too, but I was able to push through it. At Mile 11, we split off...it was actually too painful to walk. I had to keep moving. I never knew so many muscles could tighten up and shut down simultaneously....AGE!!! Bill managed to cross the finish line 5 minutes after I did, and I was really proud of him! I've never run through so much pain in my life, and that includes the LA (FULL)Marathon in 1999 (or was it '98? Southbay Girl, help me out here! I can't remember!) My big lesson out of all this is to TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN.... However, now I have the confidence to attempt more 10K's...and I think this will be the last 1/2 marathon for a while, for me.
This course was really really hilly. But what fun to run down the streets I grew up on, so close to my neighborhood!
The shot you see above is me, with Bill, and Helen, who walked about half of it. Bill was in agony, not knowing what had just happened to his foot. Despite everything, a good time was had by all. And we're still recovering! I will continue to run, though, and I'm really excited about doing some 10K's.
Thank you, Southbay Girl, for talking me into this!!
Finish time: 2:50:43

Southbay Girl's 6 word Meme

I guess better late than never..... I'm not great with words-way better with numbers -so I've been sitting on this for a bit. I'm still not happy with my 6 word meme choice-but it will have to do!

Pain Persistence Patience-Joy of Life

thanks Calyx for attempting to make me think!

Now RUN WILLIE RUN! And for all you others who are out! RUN- BIKE -SWIM whatever!!!

Here is an exert from this morning's Tennessean paper from the Marathon winner-yes a Kenyan:

Sylvester Chebii, 26, of Kenya, won his CMM debut in a time of 2:14:27, ahead of countryman Meshack Kosgei Kirwa, who finished in 2:14:55.

It was the eighth victory here for a Kenyan, including Luke Kibet’s course-record effort of 2:12:55 in 2000. Ethiopian Feyisa Tusse won in 2006.

“I ran well,” Chebii said. “I was trying for 2:10, but I could not because (the course) was hilly.”

I did it, I ran it. It was a blast!

Maryland Girl's first half marathon! So of course I have a PR now: 2:41:25. Not too shabby for 43 year old me running a half marathon 3 weeks after a calf injury, not really running in those 3 weeks and not being sure if I would even be able to run today! SouthBay Girl and I kept together through 6 miles, then my calf was tightening up a bit so I had to slow down. I persevered and kept on moving. I did slow to a walk at all the fuel stops and other than the major PEE break 20 minutes into the race (after standing in the start corral for 58 minutes - we both had to stop!), I only stopped one other time at a port-o-potty to pee (the joys of a body that has born a child). Wet lycra and sweaty body in a port-o-potty is not easy! As SouthBay Girl reported this course was much up hill, gradual climbs. I yelled out loud at mile 12 - "who puts a hill in the last mile!" With that said, I smiled through most of my run and sang a bit out loud to what ever song was playing on the ipod. I can thank the Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Kanye West, Good Charlotte, and others for joining me! I cheered with the people cheering along the side and clapped for the musicians playing. I had fun! My right calf muscle, wrapped in ace band glory performed very well and is only slightly sore tonight. My knees and left ankle (old, old injury spot) are a little sore too! I thought I would cry at the end, but I didn't! I was so excited at the end! AWESOME! I can't wait to do another big race and another half marathon! I am thankful that I am able to do this! It was truly a blast! I loved seeing all the people - fast, slow, tall, short, skinny, fat - out there running, walking or something in between! Proof that you only limit yourself.
Now that this race is over, I will continue to blog here as I'm not going to stop running. I have a 5K coming up on Mother's Day weekend. That will be a breeze! I am thinking of tackling the Rock and Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach for Labor Day weekend. Can we say - HOT AND HUMID NO MATTER THE TIME OF DAY! I have family down that way, so it is an easy destination run for me. If not that, then there is a half in my neck of the woods the end of summer put on by the Parks Department, which runs the trail I ran during my training for today's race. Thank you for all the kind thoughts! Keep on Running!

Finish: 2:41:25 (12:19 mile pace)

Splits:
5K 38:58 (12.33 mile pace)
6mile 1:13:06 (12.11 mile pace)
10 mile 2:02:24 (12:15 mile pace)

Southbay Girl Completes the Nashville Half Marathon!

Well, it's done! I got up and ran after a pretty brutal month of work! I woke up at 5am-having slept about 5 hours of a somewhat restless sleep(gotta love a two hour time change after flying in on a redeye!) I made quite a delicious baked rigatoni and spinach salad last night-yes and a small glass of wine! And found that at 10pm I wasn't really tired-maybe the nap at 3pm was a bad idea?? Well, lets just say, The Nashville Half or as it's best known, The Country Music Half Marathon, is not the easiest of courses! I swear it's all uphill. I guess I knew this-since most of the half marathon is in my neighborhood- like the NYC Marathon, this race is deceivingly more difficult than anyone thought- did I say it's uphill! But I ran all of the uphills! And some of them were a slow long uphill!

Considering how crappy my training has been this month due to my work schedule-I'm thrilled that I ran, finished and, drum roll please, had negative splits! Very exciting! I don't think I've ever had negative splits in a race!!!! The race started in rain (yippee), The Three of us( Southbay, Maryland and Valley Girls) were in the same Corral and started the race together. We waited 58 minutes until our Corral actually crossed the start line! That's a long time to wait especially in the cold and rain but I'm not complaining about the cold and rain-way better than the alternative hot and sunny! Once we started I began to warm up right away but realized the 58 minute wait hadn't been good for my bladder-all my pre-race fluids(my bottle of water and the mandatory two cups of morning tea!) were catching up to the non-running, waiting around me!. So a pee break at mile 2 was a necessity! Luckily we were running up a hill towards Music Row and passed a construction site with loads of porta potties-Marlyand Girl and I felt much better after the porta potty stop! The rain stopped almost right away and over the course it slowly started to warm up. I saw my son and mother right before Mile 4! She took a few pictures, we ate some orange slices that I had cut up in the morning and we were off again! Around Mile 7, Maryland Girl and I split up. I kept running up Belmont Blvd, the LONG incline hill-I didn't want to stop running! I was determined to continue and I did it! I hope Maryland girl was ok about me leaving her-at this point I knew i was feeling pretty good and that I could do a decent run even with the brutal month I've had! Up and down more hills and thru the area called The Gulch (pretty cool little development they are building there) I began to see signs of the end being near! Downtown was looming larger and larger! At mile 12 I called my mom and told her I had 1.1 miles to go (she was our ride from the finish line)-I was on yet another uphill heading towards the Courthouse and the sun decides to make an appearance out-UGH-didn't the sun get the memo not to show up today!!!???? Luckily I was close enough to the finish that it didn't matter too much! Water and gatorade were still my friends today-and at the finish line it was BEER! Yummy! I have Maryland Girl and Valley Girls' times as well-but obviously I wont go into detail about their experience! I'll let them do it!! I hope they enjoyed themselves! I know I did. It was the first time I've run a long race like in a very long time! I have my running back! And running this half and crossing the finish line made me realize why I love to run! No matter how far or how fast you run, just running is an accomplishment! I'm thrilled I have been given the gift of being able to run-again!!! But I did miss running with Velcro!

Southbay Girl and Maryland Girl are here!

No we are not drinking right now! These are wonderful bottles of vino for tomorrow night! One must preplan! I arrived this morning at 9:30-flying all night sucks! But Maryland girl was kind enough to pick me up at the airport and we headed immediately to the health and fitness expo at the Nashville Convention center. I might add-it's hot and humid here! YUCK! It had better rain like all the weather people are predicting! We went shopping-bought yummy pasta and will be doing a bit of a carbo load tonight! Valley girl is somewhere in Nashville- I did talk to here-but that's been the extent of it....hopefully we'll meet up tomorrow.

Sleep and hydration is on the top of the list for tonight....ok sleep is at the top of my list! It's friday and i'm not working! Woo Hoo!!!! A mini-vacation for me! and maryland girl!!

Tomorrow night we are having friends over for a dinner and drinks! Loads of pictures will be taken tomorrow! So you'll all have to wait!

The time has come

A quick run with velcro, I'll soon be gone, to Nashville I'll fly, to run my butt off.

My last run with velcro until monday or tuesday! What am I going to do? My running partner wont be with me! We had a nice run together-she did try to chase ducks today. She's getting a bit pissed at my work schedule-so she's acting up! But my dad will be staying with her while I'm away!

I fly out on the redeye tonight at 11:55pm. Fun Times! I'll be working up until that point! Yes, I worked another long day yesterday! I don't understand why they can't shoot this shit in 12 hours! I had a 10:12 call yesterday and I was wrapped at 1:30am. SUCKS! But I'm happy to be working, especially after the 3 month strike!

So off I go to Nashville! I'm packed, ready to go....I tried to coerce my son into running the race with us- not going to happen! But he has his Planet Ynnep Running shirt and will cheer us along Belmont Blvd(since we live right down the street from there and my soon-to-be sister-in-law lives there as well. I'm tired and the redeye will suck. But I'll have fun no matter what! i get to see my son and my mom and Maryland Girl and Valley Girl and it's going to RAIN! HEAVEN for me!!!! See you all in Nashville!

What a way to prepare for running a half marathon!!!

So many wonder why I don't run marathons....well-welcome to episodic television! And welcome to my life! On Monday my workday started at 6:42 (meant I left the house at 5:50 and was up at 4:50) and we wrapped at 8:50pm-didn't get home until around 9:30. Velcro was very amped up. I had high hopes for a slightly shorter day today! HA! I was up at 5:15am, out the door at 6:15-45 minutes later got to the studio, had breakfast and started working at 7:12am.....and guess what time we wrapped tonight??? 11:06pm!!! Almost a 16 hour work day! I got home around 11:45-I'm blogging briefly while sipping a nice Cabernet and will soon be plopping my body down onto my bed! Yes I've been up for 19 hours! And I'm still in a good mood~!~ because I know I'm getting a run in at 7am tomorrow! A short one-but damnit it will be a run!!! And I'm sure I'll be working yet another long ass day! Episodic television= no life!!! Fun Times!!! But here in Southbay Girl land-she refuses to let the "biz" take away her life! Can't wait to run!!! Now I must go to bed before my face falls flat onto my keyboard and I wake up in the morning with the letters a w s d e z x imprinted on my left cheek!!

Monday-nothing
Tuesday: 1 minute plank; 50 Bicycle sit-ups

Maryland Girl Still Lives and is Getting Ready for Nashville!

I had busy work week last week and have been busy so far this week. I have not done any running. The last time I went out (4/17), I tried to run with my calf unwrapped. I only made it .70 miles before it had tightened up into ball and hurt so bad! :( So, I am not sure how much running I will be doing this Saturday.... I WILL HAVE IT WRAPPED! I did buy a
neoprene calf support thing last night, I'm trying it out. When I ran before I just had an ace bandage on it. I don't know which is better. Stupid injury. I wanted to really run! It doesn't hurt to walk or do the stairs or anything any more, so I'm not sure what the issue is! :(

It will still be a blast to meet up with South Bay Girl and Valley Girl. WE WILL HAVE FUN! We will take pictures too!

Oh and the Six Word MEME! Thanks for the tag Calyx. I don't have any others to tag cause they all already have been tagged, but here are my words:
Quiet resilience bursting forward into life.

A Busy Weekend!

Well-I finally got some sleep on friday night! Since i started a new TV show on Friday, Mad Men, I only worked an 8 hour day-they wanted to pick up one scene before actually starting production officially! The good thing was I didn't have to be at work until 12 noon! And that was very good because I didn't get off Women's Murder Club until 2am on friday morning! So friday night came and I was SLEEPY! I ate dinner, hada glass of wine and went to bed! And saturday I was up at 5am to drive down to Escondido for the ACDCGLA AKC Herding Trial! We had two runs on saturday-the first one I retired, velcro was very fired up! All she wanted to do was chase sheep! And once the sheep bolted from the z chute to the pen-it was basically finished anyway! The second run was in the All Breed Started. We finished the course, and had a qualifying score-but we lost 50% of our points in the outrun, fetch and drive section (you lose more than 50% of the points and qualify!) I was 1 point shy of qualifying!

Sunday, I was able to go for a trail run with my girl before heading back down to Escondido. We were only running in ACD only, which was the end of the day. So Velcro and I went to Ocean Trails for a 5 mile trail run! What a spectacular morning! Sorry-no pics, silly me forgot my phone! But it was good because it didn't give me an excuse to stop!
Mile 1: 13:26
Mile 2: 13:40
Mile 3: 16:54
Mile 4: 12:56
mile 5: 13:13
We did 5.03 miles so I had a super fast 16 sec pace! For a total trail run time of 1:10:28. Not bad considering how I haven't run much this week!

RUN: 5.03 Miles with Velcro on the Trails
623 cals burned
Total time: 1:10:28

I'm exhausted....

Well just a brief re-cap of how my week has been:
Monday we worked almost a 15 hour day-I didn't run
Tuesday Velcro and I ran 3 miles and then I went to work and worked another 15 hour day
Wednesday I had 4 1/2 hours sleep and went to Panavision to prep for my next TV show called Mad Men that starts on friday. I didn't get home until 8:30pm and was so tired I could hardly eat dinner-went to bed and slept until 8:30 this morning. I now have my running gear on-I don't go to work until 12 noon today, but the sun is out and it's getting hot...hmmm....I'll get out there! Our Planet Ynnep Running tanks arrived from Cafe Press! I'm so excited! My fellow Country Music Half Marathoners get theirs when I see them in Nashville! And new news-my son is thinking of running with me instead of cheering-but I'm not holding my breathe for that one!!

It's been a long week so far! I'm tired, my running has fallen to shit and I have an AKC herding trial all weekend. But Valley Girl and I are planning a trail run this sunday!!

Don't be expecting great things from Southbay Girl when she gets to Nashville! At this point I'm going to be happy to finish!!

RUNS:
Tuesday-3.0 miles with Velcro
Thursday-4.25 miles of a sluggish human and dog in the heat and sun! UGH!
Thursday: 10 pushups

Maryland girl runs!!!

I got up an met my training group on Saturday morning at 7 am. I had my calf wrapped. I had warmed up abit before I left the house . The start SUCKED! My group went ahead I chugged along slowly. I thought if I still feel shitty at the 1 mile mark I'll turn around. Well by 1 mile I had warmed up enough that I went on to 2. At 2 I was feeling good. So I decided I could go to the 3 mile mark and then I would turn around. My group was doing 8. I knew I wasn't going to do 8. So I ran 6 miles, only walking about the last quarter mile because it is up hill and it sucked. IT WAS A SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW SIX MILES. The rest of the group joined me back at the start probably 5 minutes after I was done and they were doing 8 miles. OH WELL! I'm just happy I ran! My calf is still a little sore, but I iced it and walked around a good bit after my run yesterday. Today I've been moving around in all sorts of strange ways as I tackled some indoor painting tasks that were on my list. Sampson and I took a walk to Starbucks this morning too. All in all a good weekend. I didn't totally bore myself with my own company! LOL My life is not all that exciting either! I need to change that!

Hot as Hell!

Southern California heat makes history

Instead of April showers, about a dozen weather records are broken as temperatures reach into the 90s.
By Carla Hall, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
April 13, 2008
Much of Southern California had an early spring bake-off Saturday as temperatures soared into the 90s and toppled decades-old weather records.

A record high of 96 was recorded in Anaheim, topping the 89-degree record set in 1994.

Newport Beach reached a record 81 degrees, beating the 1957 record of 80.

According to National Weather Service data, about a dozen records were broken from Santa Barbara, where it hit 89 degrees (breaking the 1947 record by one degree), to San Diego County, where the city of El Cajon reached 96 degrees, breaking its 2000 record of 89.

In between, Long Beach hit a high of 95 degrees -- besting a record 91 set in 1944 -- and a record high of 91 was recorded at Los Angeles International Airport, breaking the 90-degree record set in 1947.

UCLA registered 92 degrees -- breaking a record of 84 degrees set in 1944.

In general, the San Fernando Valley was not much hotter than the L.A. Basin: Van Nuys registered a high of 93 and Pasadena reached 91.

No, it's not global warming. "This is just regular old weather," said Bonnie Bartling, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

More precisely, according to Bartling, a high pressure system and a moderate offshore wind -- moving air from inland to the ocean -- are warming up areas all the way to the beaches. (Malibu hit a high of 80.)

More of the same is expected today. "Could be a degree or two hotter," Bartling said.

The weather could cool off significantly by Tuesday.

So with this article in todays paper, and having spent all day out in this record heat yesterday(and this morning again herding) I am waiting until either super late tonight or the wee hours of tomorrow to run! I will not subject my body to this heat! Of course that is if my knee is up for it! I fell down and went boom today while herding! I landed on a large pile of rocks, left knee first! I guess I shouldn't have been walking backwards making sure Velcro wasn't doing strafing runs on the sheep! Yep it hurts, and bled and is swollen and stiff! And I'm a dork! I've been icing it all day so I'll see how it feels! If it isn't one thing it's another!

I chatted with Valley girl today-she ran both days-silly girl! I'll let her post about her hell of running in the heat! So lets all gather and chant for a cool down!!! I'll take a rain dance from anyone! June Gloom where are you???

Thank god it's the weekend!!

I had a pretty brutal work week-I think our hour total was about 67 hours for the 5 days-that's just ugly! I had a 2 pm call time on friday-and surprisingly enough I did run friday-even though it was late, hot, sunny and I had worked a 14.5 hour day the night before. It was slow and sluggish but it woke me up and got me going, and I so needed that! We worked a 13.5 hour day friday. We wrapped at 3am, and I was home a little after 3:30 and asleep by about 4am. I poured a glass of wine which was still beside my bed when I woke up this morning at 10am. I had to get up early because I drove down to Escondido with Velcro and my dad so Velcro could herd cows for the very first time! It was awesome! I definitely think she's better suited for cattle than sheep! She initially wasn't sure what to do-they don't look like sheep-but her second run was so much better than the first! Of course then we went into herd the sheep and she treated them like cattle! But it was a great time for all of us. But I'm exhausted! Tonight is going to be a very mellow evening! I have a nice bottle of wine, tv shows on tivo and some movies! And boy is it super hot here right now! hate it! It's 81 and it's 7pm....yeah no running for me tonight. If I run tomorrow it will be very early in the morning(that probably wont happen since I really want to sleep) or later tomorrow night(that might happen since I don't have to be at work on monday until 9am). And yes my job is bullshit and I work way too much! Am I happy about it? NO not really! The hours suck. I have no life, I'm exhausted, I can't run, haven't been to a pilates class in weeks, cant hang with my animals, meet people-what is that? And haven't been able to raise my son because the entertainment industry is far from condusive to a normal family life and children! I can't do anything but spend saturday recovering, sunday getting a half ass run in as well as laundry, cleaning, errands and then monday it starts all over again! I'm happy to be working and earning money-god knows after the WGA 3 month strike-I need $ but seriously...my life doesn't revolve around working 15 hours 5 days a week! These people are fucking stupid! It's a tv show for gods sake-we should be able to finish the days work in 12 hours!!! I'm just so frustrated because I'm working with idiots! Idiots that obviously have nothing better to do than spend 15 hours a day shooting a tv show! They obviously don't want to go home! I do! I want a life outside the entertainment industry! And it's nearly impossible to have that! No wonder all of my friends are in the fim industry-they are the only ones that work the same shitty hours I do and who understand the fact that they may not see or hear from me in weeks because of the shitty hours I work! Sorry....it's been a very long, frustrating week! And it's sad that I already feel like I need a vacation! I so want to go camping! Just get away from it all!!!

And Willie, Velcro isn't happy that I'm working! She's so amped up when i get home-but I have an amazing pet sitter who comes in 7 hours after I leave and takes her to play! But it's not the same! I get home at 3am and she wants to play with mommy and it breaks my heart! At least I've given her a few runs this week....but feel free to come to California anytime and hang with her but you might not see me because of my shitty work schedule!

RBR-you are not fat! far from it! You look amazing! Don't forget that!!! I on the other hand am losing the battle that I was winning when my ex-boyfriend left me and I lost all the weight! I feel and look fat! I'm hating my body right now-probably because I can't do the things I want to do(run and pilates) and it sucks! I'm feeling fat and unattractive-but I guess I'll have money!

And then monday I'm right back at it. Since I don't have to leave the house until 7am on monday, I'm going to try my darndest to get a monday morning run in!!!

Thursday is Payday ....

and for the hellacious hours I'm putting in-payday is my FAVORITE day! I did a quick run with Velcro and now must get in the shower. I worked another 15 hour day yesterday! I was up a total of 19 hours-entertainment isn't glamorous!!!! Will post pics when I get a free moment!

Frustrated!

Maryland girl tried to run yesterday. It was not without some pain. My calf muscle is still tender. I am bummed. I did about 2 miles - started out walking and then ran some and then walked again. I stretched, massaged, and iced it when I got home and I have it wrapped. It just has to get better before April 26! I did not put all this effort into training to not actually run the event! It did feel good to get really moving though after a week and half of not much of anything. I need the endorphins!

A little late but WAY TO GO LADY VOLS!

Side note: I survive the completion of taxes with the ex. It went very smoothly. Now to give the gov't all my money. I have yet to figure out the balance of getting the taxes just right so that either you get a little back or you have to pay a little. Why is that so difficult? I think I may have to consult an accountant for the getting back on my own financial stuff. My financial life is not that complicated I'm not sure why this has to be such a bother!

Hump Day!

It's Wednesday. Yesterday we only worked a 12 hour day, but it was up in Pasadena-and for a 9:30am call I had to leave at 7:30 and I didn't get home until 10:30-so yet again another long day. No matter what, this show can't seem to have short days! But i got up and ran this morning. Velcro and I started off in the dark and ran thru sunrise-it was very nice! Now I must go to work!

Then I went right back at it until we wrapped at 9:45pm tonight. I finally made it home by 10:30pm and all I want to do is go to bed!!! No run today! Just work!

Sunday ended on a positive note for Southbay Girl

After my rants about being a slug, I knew I had to get out there and run! I was feeling better after herding....I was able to sit down and veg on the couch watching womens basketball and I began to get really motivated. I set out around 6:30 with no set mileage goal. I just wanted to trail run with velcro and watch a sunset! It was the perfect southbay girl weather, overcast and cool....heaven! I parked a half mile away from the entrance to the trails-wanting to get a slightly longer run in than normal....and off we went. There were quite a few people out tonight. Most of them were walking. We got into Ocean Trails and the sun was trying to peak thru the clouds-it was awesome! Sunsets really are inspiring! Sunset is the time for reflection and solitude-at least for me! And tonight was no exception. We were running up the hill from the beach and one of my favorite Ryan Adams songs came on,Sweet Carolina, and I got very emotional and started crying....there are so many reasons why....exhaustion should probably be at the top of the list but also just remember what "could have been" with the ex(since Houston is mentioned in the song and that's where he's from)-how could I have fallen for someone so wrong for me? Crying because I run in such a beautiful place and have such a wonderful running companion in Velcro. Crying because I love to run-and feel so lucky that I'm able to run pain free again! Crying because I have work and I'm getting a paycheck again and now I want more free time! Crying because I wish someone could share this amazing time with me.... Running is my church! It's my religion, it's my love, it's my freedom and it's my escape! And I feel so incredibly lucky that I have it back and am getting back to my running form! I've lost so much weight since the asshole ex left me and i started running again! Of course being pre-menstrual is also a reason I'm crying....But I really feel so lucky! So lucky that I didn't follow the ex down his destructive evil drug path and that I found my way out of the dark hole that he had sucked me into! So lucky that I'm healthy and, surprisingly happy! So lucky that I live in an amazing place, have an amazing son-who I wish I saw more than I do, and amazing animals that keep my mind off the fact that i don't see my son enough! I'll stop now......I just needed to write!

And how about the Lady Vols!!! In the womens national Championship Final!!!!

Ryan Adams La Cienaga Just Smiled
one of my all time favorite Ryan Adams songs-please listen and love it!!!

RUN: 6.02 Miles with Velcro on the Trails

Oh My God I'm such a slug!

My alarm went off at 6am-and I couldn't move! There was no way I could get in my car, drive an hour and then run! I had to sleep. And that's what I did-SLEEP! And I just woke up. I'm terribly disappointed! But I've run myself down while working and running and got sick and it turned into pneumonia-I will never do that again! So sleep was what my body was asking for, sleep was what I gave it. I take Velcro herding at 2:30 today and then I'm planning on a trail run this evening. I'd like to do a long one-but I'll just go out and see how I feel.

Saturday Dog Beach pictures from Southbay Girl

Way too exhausted to run today! I got up around 11:30 and ran some errands and had to drag myself out to take Velcro to the beach with her doggie friend grace. But it was so worth it. They both had a great time, and I sat on the beach with my friend Lisa, chatting, playing with the dogs and taking in the sounds and smells of the beach.

Getting up early tomorrow to run in my first Trail race at malibu Creek. i had wanted to enter the 25K but I don't think it's a wise choice considering I've never run 15 miles on a trail and I'm so exhausted. So it will be the 9k for me tomorrow! Hope for cool weather!

Thank God it's FRIDAY!!!!

Well, once again another long day at work-this time we only worked 13 hours-woo hoo! I left for work at 10:30am, work started at noon and we finished at 1am, I strolled in the house around 1:30 and this time had a slightly harder time falling asleep-yikes, I'm getting used to working nights! I finally fell asleep around 2am and woke up this morning around 9am. Still tired, and a bit cranky but today is friday and I got paid yesterday!! Velcro and i just went for our run...I cut 6 minutes off my time today-amazing the difference in my runs when I only work a 13 hour day instead of a 14 or a 15 hour day! Imagine if I only worked an 8-10 hour day! I'd be a speed demon! HA!

My run felt pretty darn good today. it was foggy when i left the house-and of course the sun came out. But I was only running a short run today so I could handle the sunshine. I sprinted the last .14 miles and so did Velcro with a tennis ball in her mouth!

Sorry forgot to take my phone with me like a silly git, so no pics today!

A southbay Girl thursday...

The alarm went off at 8:45, time to get up and get going-feed the cats and then head out for a run with Velcro. It was another slow one-I sometimes wonder if it's better to not run when I'm exhausted. But I feel so much better when I come back even though it's as slow as molasses due to my work schedule! Oh well.....it clears my head and it's my time with velcro! I must now dash into the shower and head off to work for another long fun-filled day at Women's Murder Club!

Southbay Girl just got in...

Good Morning! It's 1:15am and I just got in from work. I'm having a beer and will be going to bed very soon! I go to work at noon tomorrow. These 14 and 15 hour work days are brutal! I'm planning on running when I get up-but we'll see how I feel. I will be getting my first full week paycheck tomorrow. The first full week paycheck in over 3 months! Woo Hoo!

And no I did not get selected in the random drawing for the Nike Womens Marathon....oh well-maybe next year!

The picture is a view from the top of the set of the tv show I've been working on Women's Murder Club.

Good Night!

It's Wednesday and Southbay Girl is already exhausted!

Well yesterday was a killer. I was hoping to run yesterday morning~but the alarm went off at 5am and all i wanted to do was sleep-so I slept for an additional 30 minutes!!! It felt like a lifetime. I was up at 5:30 and raced around the house doing the cats, dog and myself before leaving the house at 6:30 for an 8am work call. We worked from 8am until 10:54pm! I didn't get home until about 11:30 and wasn't in bed until midnight! A long ass 19 hour day being on my feet the entire time! I'm tired. SO when I woke up this morning to run I was hurting! And the run really showed-it was SLOW..........but I got out and did something, I got the blood flowing and feel a little better now. Still tired but I think I can tackle the long day they have in store for us! Might be another 15 hour day at work! Oh happy day! And it's Velcro's Barkday today! She's 4 years old!!!!

RUN: 3.29 Miles with Velcro in 43:26 UGH! SLOW as Molasses!!!
